Call name: Tasman Date of Birth: 26.01.2007 Colour: Blue Weight: 29kg Height: 52cm Scissor bite Full dentition prcd PRA C affected
HD: C Companion dog exam passed on 19.04.2009
Personality: Tasman is our first Australian Cattle Dog. We were so much positively surprised with him that we wanted to have one more cattle dog at our home!
He has shared his passion for life with all our family members making each day more colourful and full of joy.
He is like a therapy dog. If anyone from our family members is in a bad mood, it is enough to hug to him, put your face into his soft coat and see as this blue angel smiles to you to be miraculously cured!
We are amazed with his intelligence and fast learning ability. In the first few months of his life he could do many tricks and commands for instance: sit, lay down, stay, heel, find a toy, give a paw and another paw, clean your legs, roll over, dead dog, beg standing on hind legs, slalom walking between the legs.
He is a great football fan. An ideal dog for a professional football sportsman for trainings. He just loves to catch the ball with his teeth, legs and sometimes hitting it with his head! He watches carefully at the position of your legs and feet and it is really difficult to cheat him. It happened to me a few times that I asked a strange groups of boys if my dog can play football with them and each time they were amazed with his football skills and agility. Each time they dreamed to have a dog like this!
Tasman just loves doing various things whether it is going for a walk in the nearby meadows and forests, tracking wild animals and birds in and high grasses, going for horse rides, herding classes, playing with a balloon by jumping to it and hitting it 40 times, visiting our parents, going for a walk to a city with plenty of people and scents, going for obedience trainings, playing with a sleeve or similar games, visiting our parents, playing with children, going to a dog show ...
With his passion for movement and being in the middle of events it is great as for the owner that he is not over energetic. If you do not have time to take care of him, he will do one of his favourite exercises: lay down with his legs and belly up for long hours. It is not a dog with ADHD for sure ! :)
But since doing different things make him so happy, even if you are not very fond of sports and activities, you will make yourself to it without much problem to please him. So if you need regular movement due to healthy reasons, you should have a fellow like him. You will start to like the outdoor activities! A dog like him is also great for teenagers giving them motivation to spend their free time actively, not just watching TV or playing games.
Tasman is also a great watch dog to our family and property. He alerts us of anything suspicious whether it is a fire put by drunkards in the nearby forest at night in the winter, somebody outside the house about to steal a motorbike or just somebody standing suspiciously on the street close to the house at night, somebody opening the door, a suspicious person cutting wood in the forest or just alone person far away when on the walk.
Appearance:
Anytime I go into a public place I am told by strangers that he is a beautiful dog and has very interesting coat and colour. For most of them he is the first ACD they see in their life. Many who saw other cattle dogs claim that he is much prettier...
Once at the show I was asked by two guys about the breed and I told them that these dogs were not bred to be beautiful but to be strong and endurable dogs and great companions during work. They said: But that dog IS beautiful!!
Tasman makes therefore good publicity to the breed! :)
Judges at the show mostly praise his beautiful head, strong and correct built and beautiful movement.
I fall in love with him and the breed in general for the wild look and that they do not look like a sweet toy dog that a little girl could comb for hours...
What is useful is that Australian Cattle Dog coat belongs to self-cleaning ones. It is enough that it dries and the dirty falls off on its own and the coat smells nicely :)
We are more than happy that we have Tasman. Life without a cattle dog like him would be so much emptier!!!
